Five hospitals in Kherson received large-scale and critically needed humanitarian assistance – 2 tons and 355 kilograms of adult diapers for hospitalized patients. Each hospital received 1–2 pallets of aid.
These supplies are intended for elderly people, wounded patients, stroke survivors, and others who today especially need care and dignified treatment conditions. In Kherson, a city living under daily terror, the burden on the healthcare system is enormous, and needs remain constant.
Behind the dry figures of this news lies a complex, multi-layered story of cooperation and extraordinary efforts by many people.
During the Conference of Community Foundations of Ukraine, the urgent need of Kherson hospitals for adult diapers was raised. This appeal was heard by Petro Makovskyi, Head of the Charitable Foundation “RIDNIA Community Foundation” from Stryi, who managed to find donors as far away as Venice.
This was followed by negotiations, coordination, the collection of aid in Italy, and the search for funds to cover complex logistics along the route Venice — Stryi — Kherson. The transportation costs were covered by the National Network of Local Philanthropy Development, which unites community foundations across Ukraine. We express our sincere gratitude for this support, in particular to Daria Rybalchenko-Vilna.
The truck carrying the aid traveled to Stryi for several days and arrived during a period of severe frost. It was during these freezing days that volunteers of the RIDNIA Community Foundation — elderly people themselves, many over 60 years old — unloaded the cargo, endured the cold, fell ill, yet did not stop.
The next stage involved meticulous work: repackaging the aid, forming targeted shipments, and organizing delivery directly to each of the five hospitals in Kherson.
As of now, all medical facilities have received these much-needed adult diapers for their patients.
This story is yet another reminder that Ukraine’s strength lies in unity. The West and the South, volunteers, community foundations, and international donors — only together are we able to achieve great things, even under the most difficult circumstances.
The Community Foundation of Kherson “Zahyst” continues its “Save Kherson Together” program, persistently seeking support for those who need it most.
